PostHeaderIcon Tangerine Dream – the Zeitgeist Concert Recording

At Tangerine Dream’s own Eastgate Music Shop is now the 3 CD recording of the band’s concert in Royal Albert Hall on April 1st 2010 available. The performance started with cellos, leading into a beautiful piano improvisation by Linda Spa – and then getting interrupted by Edgar Froese’s beating with a whip on the grand piano strings and then suddenly the new arrangement of Rubycon 2010!

Tangerine Dream played the Royal Albert Hall for the first time in April 1975. So this concert was actually a 35 year anniversary. The 3 CDset comes with a 16-pages booklet. Below are two videos from the concert taken by the audience.

A truly unique concert!

See the complete track listing here.

PostHeaderIcon 3 New Live Videos from Eric Mouquet

If you didn’t get to see Eric Mouquet of Deep Forest/Deep Project’s concert at La Villette/France in May, you can now enjoy three songs from the concert below.
I think it so nice to hear and see Eric do some of the old Deep Forest material, from the World Mix period in the mid 1990s. And wow, Blick Bassy adds a magnificent vocal! Inor Sotolongo is great on the percussion. Some Deep Brasil material would also have been nice of course.

When doing this kind of music live the question is always; how to give life to the ethnical samples and the overall synth/sequenced presentation. The best way is actually shown here; just playback the samples and synth effect and add something extra, like Blick Bassy’s vocal – and even more live instruments.

These videos are true gold for the Deep Forest fan. And don’t forget, we will soon get a brand new Deep Project album called Deep Africa! Eric Mouquet is without a doubt the king of new age music within the ethnic sub genre. With a Grammy (for Deep Forest) and over 10 million album sold and just as many playbacks on Youtube, he is an artist loved by a truly international audience.

Be sure to visit Deep Projects.com.

PostHeaderIcon Bruce Kaphan Song Video / Oregon Fire

Bruce Kaphan from California has taken pedal string guitar to a whole new level in New Age music for years, making this instrumental transition not only a surprising one but a dazzling one too, giving even music purists a reason to love pedal steel guitar with his earlier release Slider and now Hybrid.

Bruce Kaphan is easily recognized in the music industry since he began an early career as a studio technician, engineer and producer for many highly recognized artists in other genres and had either played a role with the recording production of their album or performed with artists such as REM, Jewel, The Black Crowes, Thomas Dolby, John Lee Hooker and a vast selection of popular musicians.

The list of popular artists Bruce has encountered as a musician and during his tenure as a recording artist is quite lengthy and will surprise you as it did me when you visit his website. During the early days while living in San Francisco he was also a member of Indie / Alternative band American Music Club plus his music has been featured on many film scores and television broadcasts.

Hybrid is his current album that I recently wrote a review about here at New Age Music World. The 12 original compositions show pedal steel guitar as an appealing choice while clearing a new path of creative improvisations in light ambience and emerges as a natural contender in the vast field of music.

Bruce Kaphan and his music is described below in my review quote, along with the song video of Oregon Fire from the Slider album. This is a nice selection of Bruce performing on pedal steel guitar behind a backdrop of beautiful photography by Nick O’Kelly. Visit brucekaphan.com website to sample / purchase his music or visit his CDBaby.com page. Read his biography page and view his collective discography page. Read my review of Hybrid on our page dedicated to Bruce Kaphan. Studio photo copyright Bruce Kaphan courtesy of James Saxon

Bruce Kaphan makes a bold statement on Slider and current Hybrid album which features pedal steel guitar as the primary instrument. You will find his music is a unique blending of unrivaled beauty freshly harvested from another cross section in the vast field of music. It quickly becomes apparent this new emerging beauty will remain a lasting entity in the world of music.

PostHeaderIcon Mike Oldfield On Alan Titchmarsh Show

I recently wrote an article called Music of the Spheres – Two years after. I hold Music of the Spheres to be one of Mike Oldfield’s best. Below is a video with Mike and Hayley Westenra from the Alan Titchmarsh Show which was recorded in connection with the album release.

We all love live new age music here on .nu, don’t we? These two artists are just so talented!!!

PostHeaderIcon Cadence Spalding / Save The World Video

Cadence Spalding is a multi talented singer, songwriter, and performer I have interviewed and published a review on recently. Many know about her Save The World release and solo performances with husband Mars Lasar on his albums by our interview, but there are so many more aspects to Cadence Spalding I wanted to tell you more about her.

Cadence is preparing for her role as a television network host for a Children’s program in California having already performed in a teaching role for years by her Miss Jenny television personality designed to educate and entertain children in the California community.

Along with her active role at many special events in the state, Cadence has scored, recorded and performed original music for children’s musicals that benefit renowned charities, including donations of original scores for documentaries, independent films and commercial CD / DVD’s.

In 2008 Cadence composed the scores for both the original and the remake of For The Children, a documentary originally narrated by James Coburn for Share Incorporated based in Beverly Hills, California.

Save The World is Classic New Age where her radiant vocals host a lovely mix of ballads finely tuned to perfection in the purest sense, and where Cadence instills her personal message of peace, harmony, and dedication to the family unit for all who share the same logic, devotion, and mindful perspective.

NewAgeMusic.nu had chose Save The World for the # 1 position of our Best Album of 2009 awards, placing Cadence Spalding at the top since we decided her debut album represented a title that answers the “ what is New Age music ” question the best and illustrates everything that is great about New Age music.

Save The World began her debut solo album as a singular artist while also glowing radiantly as a soloist on many releases from Mars Lasar, who provided his expertise and renowned talents on the mixing, vocal layering, and technical production of her debut which nicely enhances the aesthetic value of her first solo album.

This release is available as a CD only or in a suggested and widely preferred CD / DVD collector’s edition featuring top quality visual photography by Mars Lasar that is a beautiful work of art.

Visit cadencespalding.com to sample / purchase. Read her Biography pages that tell about her diverse life work and Miss Jenny character when leading her children programs. Read our interview together and my review on our page dedicated to Cadence Spalding.

Visit marslasar.com to sample / purchase his many releases. Read his biography here then read our interview on our page dedicated to Mars Lasar. Below is an album quote from my review titled Music to the Power of One and a video of title song Save The World.

Cadence Spalding is one person doing their part as role model for bringing about a greater awareness by her Save The World album. The 11 tracks pertain to the noblest of desires in conveying her message of what one person alone can accomplish by caring for mother earth, caring for those who cannot help themselves, and by caring for one another as a family unit.

PostHeaderIcon Albums by 2002 available again

After Gemini Sun Records closed its doors, several of 2002’s albums have been unavailable. Now three of them have been re-released on 2002’s own label Galactic Playground Music. The albums are Deep Still Blue, A Word in the Wind and Christmas Dreams.

For the re-release of Deep Still Blue a new music video has been made. The song is Where the Stars and Moon Play. As we know from before; the song is awesome, but the underwater video too is very very nice!

Check it out below.

PostHeaderIcon New Deep Africa trailer

The release of Eric Mouquet’s Deep Africa is getting close. The album will be out in April. In preparation for this, Mouquet has released a small video trailer (see below). In style the trailer is very close to the Deep Forest albums of the early 1990s (especially Word Mix, where Sweet Lullaby was the no. 1 hit). We are also happy to report that our good friend, the very talented Joel Kanning, is a part of the project! He will be delivering remixes of the music.

PostHeaderIcon New music video from Henta

Henta’s album Laserium for the Soul was nominated for a Grammy. Now she is ready with a new video, Vision of Truth.

About the song she says:

This song is about envisaging a new world of harmony, unity, compassion and love and finding ways to make a personal positive impact in the world to help turn that vision into reality. This journey will most likely be a challenging but you need to hold onto your vision, be strong and stay true to yourself and your personal truth. This video was shot in various locations, including Sedona (Arizona), Ocean Shores (Washington), Antibes (France), Florida and in Seattle, Washington.

PostHeaderIcon Gandalf Sanctuary Tour 2009

A video that impressed me a lot is the below from Gandalf’s Sanctuary Tour 2009. What a true master Gandalf is. Yet another proof that new age music is live music.

PostHeaderIcon New Video by 2002

A new video by 2002 has just been released. It depict the great supernova of July 4, 1054 A.D., the remnants of which became the famous Crab Nebula. The video is about what people back then might have been thinking when they saw this for them magic and mystical event. The supernova was visible even in broad daylight for 23 days. This is the video as it appears on the DVD/CD set “A Word in the Wind” by 2002.

PostHeaderIcon The world of Liquid Mind

Make no mistake about it; the music of Liquid Mind (aka Chuck Wild) has become an international phenomenon – reaching audiences far beyond most other artists in our genre – climbing to the very top on both Amazon and iTunes new age music charts, month after month (right now he is on top of the Amazon NA Music mp3 downloads chart).

Chuck Wild started creating music to deal with the anxiety and stress of overwork and the serious illness of friends – releasing his first album in 1994 (Ambience Minimus). Now his discography contains some of the finest meditation and relaxation albums released.

RealMusic has created a wonderful video presentation about the music of Liquid Mind. If you are looking for the perfect gift to a dear friend – or yourself – RealMusic sells iPod Shuffles with the complete Liquid Mind Collection installed!

In this world of stress and negativity, we all need some Liquid Mind from time to time. I know I’m right about that one :)

PostHeaderIcon New Video by Michael Brant DeMaria

PostHeaderIcon New video by 2002

2002 has just released a new video for the song A Word in the Wind, with performance clips of the band layered into the composition. The video features Randy Copus on guitar (Stratocaster) and Pamelaon her transverse flute. A Word in the Wind is, by the way, an all time favorite on New Age Stars – so you probably already know the song. Enjoy!

PostHeaderIcon Jillian Aversa and FL Studio

FL Studio is one of the most popular music software available, and version 9 of the program has just been released. This program is used by professionals (like Mike Oldfield) and hobbyists alike. And, lo and behold, new age music’s very own Jillian Aversa (Goldin) is featured in the program’s demo song!

Sample the song below (it is not really new age music but more like electronica), where you also can see how the program looks like.

We here at .nu simply adore Jillian – and her debut album was awarded our “Best new age music album of 2008” price.

PostHeaderIcon Christmas offers from New Age Music labels

PostHeaderIcon A Mediterranean Odyssey

We love live new age music here at .nu – and the next best thing to a live concert is a high quality, fan oriented live album release. One such release is A Mediterranean Odyssey which comprises a richly designed Limited Edition 2 disc set commemorating Loreena McKennitt’s 2009 Mediterranean Tour. Designed to attract not only the legions of devoted Loreena listeners, but to expose and inspire the uninitiated to an exotic, haunting and emotional musical experience they will never forget. This is truly a glittering addition to Loreena McKennitt’s catalogue!

Inspired by the tones, textures and rich cultural heritage of the Mediterranean, this latest release features virtuosic performances on authentic instruments including oud, lyra, bouzouki, harp and hurdy-gurdy alongside electric guitar, cello and percussion. Disc 1 “The Olive and the Cedar” A Mediterranean-inspired collection of 11 studio recordings personally selected by Loreena McKennitt from her back catalogue. Disc 2 “From Istanbul to Athens” Is 56 minutes of concert highlights from the 2009 Mediterranean Tour including five songs not featured in previous Loreena McKennitt “in concert” releases. The collection also includes a 24 page, lavishly illustrated booklet featuring on-location photographs captured during the tour.

See a presentation of the album below. We can only say wow, Loreena McKennitt is once again showing that she knows what the fans wants. The album is available on Amazon and all other major digital music outlets.

PostHeaderIcon Era Classics

Now this is something quite different; Era Classics might sound like yet another “best of” album from a major label artist – but that is not the case at all. The new album from Eric Lévi’s popular Era project (famous for such songs as Ameno, Cathar Rhythm and The Mass) is actually a collection of works by classical artists such as Verdi, Bach and Mahler – all remixed to fit into Era’s famous soundscape. Sample it here – and in the video below.

On Era Classics you can hear Era’s versions of such songs as Ave Maria, Four Seasons and Adagio For Strings. And as usual, the focus is on vocals that reminds of Gregorian Chants. Needles to say, it is a beautiful collection. The use of samples also creates an interesting atmosphere.

Another aspect with Era’s music is the gorgeous videos that emphasize the medieval atmosphere – Era’s most prominent trademark. See the video here

Like previous Era albums, this one too was also first released in France (on November 2nd). I have been unable to find an international release date, but I will keep you posted. It will probably take a few weeks (or months) more. Enjoy the video below in the meantime.

PostHeaderIcon Three new live videos with Eric Mouquet

I hold Eric Mouquet of Deep Forest/Deep Projects to be the finest Ethnic Fusion artist ever - and he is one of the few major label new age artists that debuted in the 1990s. He is also an outstanding pianist. But don’t take my word for it, let the 10+ million albums sold, or the 20+ million Youtube playbacks of Sweet Lullaby speak for themselves. Like Mike Oldfield he has not been that successful in the US, but he is loved both in Europe and in Asia (especially Japan). I also feel that his current Deep Project, with last year’s release of Deep Brasil (our review here), is truly inspiring.

Another thing that makes Eric Mouquet great is his ability to make live shows out of sequenced music, much like J. M. Jarre (but with a much smaller laser show mind you). Below are three freshly uploaded Youtube videos from Eric’s show “Live in Ebisu”, Tokyo 2009 on July 20th, available in HD-quality. Awesome!

PostHeaderIcon Giving back to the fans – and the world

More and more major artists are using web forums and video chat proactively to reach out to their fans. As we have told you before, Jean M. Jarre is one of them. Another is Peter Buffett. On his Ning forum his fans really get to know the man behind the music. Here they can listen to unreleased tracks and every first Tuesday in the month he answers questions live.

To become a Peter Buffett follower on Ning, follow this link and request a forum membership.

In other news, Peter is set to perform Blood Into Gold at the 2009 Freedom Awards produced by Free The Slaves. The Freedom Awards will take place on Tuesday, October 13th on the University of Southern California campus. The event is to celebrate the heroes of the anti-slavery movement from around the world and will honor organizations and individuals working to eradicate human trafficking and modern-day slavery.

You can see the strong music video below, which really gets you thinking.

PostHeaderIcon 30th anniversary of Oxygen

In connection with the 30th anniversary of Oxygene, Lean-Louis Remilleux has made a wonderful documentary about Jean Michel Jarre (Remilleux has previously written a biography in French about the same artist). The documentary contains many clips from concerts and you get to see the master at work. There are also some funny scenes from his earliest career.

The documentary is currently being aired on tv networks around the world (most recently in Scandinavia). It is also available on Youtube in French.

PostHeaderIcon J. M. Jarre tells about his new site

Here at NewAgeMusic.nu we love artists that communicates directly with fans, and who use the power of internet to the max. One of those artists is Jean Michel Jarre. Below is his presentation of his newly redesigned site. This is truly a statement that he cares about his fans, and that he loves to create and communicate music!

Here is the new site.

And I am not the only one praising Jarre about this. Here is a comment from Youtube:

I know of few other artist who communicates so well with his fans like you do. I’ve seen you in Paris, Dublin and London. Your energy and enthusiasm is second to none. I really enjoy reading your blog and its very encouraging to now know that on the forum it is yourself writing. A big thank you from a big fan!

Or, to be more precise, no other major star in our genre is this generous when it comes to communicate with the fans. After 80 million albums sold he is still cares about you, the fan.

PostHeaderIcon Mike Oldfield on the Radcliffe & Maconie Show

Yesterday Mike Oldfield was interviewed on the Radcliffe & Maconie Show on BBC Radio 2. You can listen to the whole interview here. Be quick because the interview is only available for 7 days. The interview starts around 1 hour 20 minutes in the show.

Mike talks about the recording of Tubular Bells and the things that lead to its release. The reason for the interview is the re-release of his first album.

By the way, here is a recent private interview with Mike from the Bahamas. It is raining, it is really pouring down!

PostHeaderIcon The best answer to ”What is New Age Music”

The question “What is new age music” is often asked – though it is hard to give a precise answer. But the next time anyone asks me this question I will give them the link to the below video with Suzanne Doucet, filmed in France by Torben Thoger, who also composed the accompanying music. New age music is a very diverse genre, but Suzanne gives in my opinion something close to the definitive answer to the above question. This is simply a very good overview. Enjoy!
